Blue Beech Link Park is lo- cated off Laurelwood Drive, west of Erbsville Road, be- tween Abraham Erb Public School and the newly named Laurel Heights Secondary School (formerly Sir John A Macdonald Secondary School). Eastbridge Green Park is lo- cated in the Eastbridge com- munity, east of Bridge Street West, with access off East- bridge Boulevard. According to a staff report, the chosen locations stood out due to their proximity to exist- ing children's playground structures, connectivity to ex- isting infrastructure and over- all visibility. The anticipated funding earmarked in the city's three- year budget forecast comes fol- lowing the opening of new wa- ter features at the Albert Mc- Cormick Community Centre and Waterloo Park during the past two years. The new cool- ing features are deliberately being put in areas of the city where none currently exist. Coun. Angela Vieth said she hopes to see more and that the city has come a long way since she was first on council, when the Lion's Lagoon, which has since closed to facilitate Water- loo Park upgrades, was the city's only splash pad. "At that time it cost money to go there," she said. "Now, our splash pads are certainly not as big, but they're accessi- ble to everyone in the commu- nity because they're free." The budget includes a total of $1,293,000 for Splash pad con- struction, plus $230,000 to sup- port design. Bids for the design and con- struction will be issued this spring with community con- sultation this summer on en- gagewaterloo.ca. People will be asked to choose between two designs for each pad with con- struction expected to get un- derway this fall.
