See story on Page 3. A 40-year-old man was struck and killed by an Ion train early Saturday. The man was walking on the Ion tracks about 125 metres north of Columbia Street at about 4:50 a.m. when he was struck by the southbound train, say police. "The collision occurred on the tracks north of Columbia Street," said acting Sgt. Jeremy Green of the Waterloo Region Police traf- fic unit. The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police urge any wit- nesses to call the traffic branch at 519-650-8500 ext. 8856. Traffic was blocked in both di- rections on Columbia Street for more than three hours as police investigated the first fatal colli- sion involving an Ion train.
