15 | W aterloo C hronicle | T hursday,M ay 27,2021 w aterloochronicle.ca The Region of Waterloo (Region) recently completed a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study to assess alternatives for upgrades to elements of the Region's drinking water treatment infrastructure located in the Township of Wilmot. The Class EA Study identifies the preferred alternative is to construct a new water treatment facility on Erb Street, adjacent to the existing reservoir at 960 Erb Street West, in Waterloo, using traditional oxidation and filtration treatment technology. The Class EA Study is following the planning and design process for Schedule C projects, as outlined in the Municipal Class EA document (October 2000, as amended), which is an approved process under the Ontario EAAct. An Environmental Study Report (ESR) summarizing the Class EA Study process and findings is available for review on the Region's website (https://www.regionofwaterloo.ca/en/living-here/current-projects.aspx) for 30 calendar days, from May 26, 2021 to June 25, 2021. In light of COVID-19, the ESR will only be available for review online. Interested persons may provide written comments to our project team by Friday, June 25, 2021. All comments and concerns should be emailed directly to Kevin Dolishny at the Region of Waterloo (kdolishny@regionofwaterloo.ca) or discussed via telephone (519-575-4400, extension 3862). In addition, a request may be made to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks for an order requiring a higher level of study (i.e., requiring an individual/comprehensive EA approval before being able to proceed), or that conditions be imposed (e.g., require further studies), only on the grounds that the requested order may prevent, mitigate, or remedy adverse impacts on constitutionally protected Aboriginal and treaty rights. Requests on other grounds will not be considered. Requests should include the requester contact information and full name for the ministry. Requests should specify what kind of order is being requested (request for additional conditions or a request for an individual/comprehensive EA), how an order may prevent, mitigate, or remedy those potential adverse impacts, and any information in support of the statements in the request. This will ensure that the ministry is able to efficiently begin reviewing the request. The request should be sent in writing or by email to: Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks 777 Bay Street, 5th Floor Toronto ON M7A 2J3 minister.mecp@ontario.ca and Director, Environmental Assessment Branch Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks 135 St. Clair Ave. W, 1st Floor Toronto ON, M4V 1P5 EABDirector@ontario.ca Requests should also be sent to the Region of Waterloo. All comments and information received from individuals, stakeholder groups and agencies regarding this project are being collected under the authority of the "Municipal Act" to assist the Region of Waterloo in making a decision. Under the "Municipal Act", personal information such as name, address, telephone number, and property location that may be included in a submission becomes part of the public record.
