Just days after sending out surveys about a couple of canine- related concerns earlier this month -- namely, dog feces -- the city received hundreds of replies. Count Kevin Schmidt among the dog owners who don't have a beef. He did, however, share some insight on why some leave bags of poop on trails, tree branches and fences, as well as around the base of unfilled waste receptacles. Confusion is the most likely explanation as to why a person would take the time to pick up dog poop and carry it, sometimes even to a bin, but not put it in, Schmidt said on March 16, while at the Bechtel off-leash park in Waterloo. "I've thrown mine into the gar- bage because (the bag) wasn't bio- degradable," he said, adding that many people might not be aware of the process behind the Sutera in-ground dog waste receptacles in various locations around the city. A recycling process turns the waste into energy, using a system that separates bags from feces.
