" " Aimee Mullins, Olympic champion, fashion model, inspirational speaker and double amputee On exhibit September 25, 2020 to January 3, 2021 NOTICE OF PROJECT COMMENCEMENT LAUREL GREENWAY FEASIBILITY STUDY THE STUDY: The City of Waterloo, along with our consultant SHIFT Landscape Architecture, is conducting a feasibility study for the Laurel Greenway. The study boundaries are approximately from Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex, through uptown to Waterloo Square and northeast to Weber Street. Included in this project will be the development of concepts for improving the experience along the Laurel Greenway; study for the inclusion of a shade structure at the public square and concepts developed for creating a more vibrant and welcoming experience on Willis Way between Caroline and Regina Streets. THE PROCESS: The study will begin with the development of problem and opportunity statements which will direct the work throughout the project. Following that initial phase, concepts will be developed for each of the areas mentioned above. Final concepts and costing will be presented to council for approval before construction can begin. MILESTONES (SUBJECT TO CHANGE): • Project start up: August 2020 • Public information centre 1: November 2020 • Development of concepts: December 2020 - April 2021 • Public information centre 2:May 2021 • Final report to council: July 2021 • Public consultation and comments: to be determined The community will have several opportunities to provide feedback on the concepts and ideas developed for each of the elements noted (Laurel Greenway, shade structure and Willis Way). Given the COVID-19 pandemic, a strategy is being developed that will allow for the greatest outreach possible while abiding by public health protocols to maintain the safety of participants. Dates will be set in the coming weeks for public information centres and the community will be notified in several ways including email, sign postings and social media. Project updates will be posted on the Laurel Greenway Feasibility Study page at engagewr.ca/laurel-greenway-feasibility-study as they become available.
