"When they register on- line we're sending all the rules and the protocols around things such as bringing their own flota- tion devices, because we're not providing flutter- boards anymore." On site there will be sep- arate lines for pre- registered participants and walk-ins. Maps will outline how people should enter the pool deck. Access to diving boards and slides is restricted. Washrooms will be open and modifica- tions are being made so people can rinse off pool- side. "We're not going to open the doors until two min- utes before swim and peo- ple must arrive in their swimsuit," Fleming ex- plained. There are circles marked on the pool deck where people can put their belongings, maintaining proper distancing. Swimmers will then be asked to leave at the end of the swim within five min- utes through a separate ex- it at the back of the pool. According to Scherrer, a third of aquatics staff con- sidered part-time casual has been recalled, includ- ing 40 to 50 lifeguards being trained in pandemic proto- col and outfitted with fan- ny packs filled with PPE, such as hand sanitzer, gloves and face masks. The Albert McCormick Community Centre, RIM Park Manulife Sportsplex and the swimplex at the Waterloo Memorial Recre- ation Complex will also be opening to accommodate and city-affiliated organi- zations and summer day camps slated to commence Monday, July 6. Camps facilitated by the city in the past along with third party providers would have served around 1,500 kids. Total capacity now is in the range of 650 to 670 - about 40 per cent of what it would be normally. "There's going to be one instructor for every four participants even though current legislation allows us to go higher, up to a max- imum of 10," Heldman said. "Again, we're focused on safety." Whether the city will print its guide of activities and programs this fall is still being determined. With the reopening of the sportsplex, the city is working with affiliate group such as the K-W Skating Club and minor hockey to resume pro- gramming and training, though Heldman doesn't expect much ice usage at this stage, as participants need to arrive in full gear. Outdoor sports fields are scheduled to open July 2 for training only, with no organized games and a maximum of 10 people per facility. Permanent washrooms facilities are scheduled to be open during booked times, however access to some toilets and urinals will be reduced to accom- modate distancing. City playgrounds re- main closed until further notice with its only splash pad under development and not ready to open until late July.
