Replacement of the Al- bert Street culvert (just west of Weber Street) has been completed, and asso- ciated work to rehabilitate Cedar Creek is currently underway, along with the reconstruction of nearby Moccasin Drive and part of Longwood Drive. Culvert replacement and associated creek reha- bilitation works were not part of the road reconstruc- tion project as originally budgeted, but were added based on the recommenda- tions of structural inspec- tion reports. Incorporating the culvert and creek work concurrently is thought to provide the best value for the city and reduces future construction-related in- convenience to the public. The $3.4-million pro- ject will enable one of the final sections of the Water- loop multi-use trail, which was included in the city's 2020 capital budget at a cost of $1.5 million. De- tailed design will be un- dertaken this year, with construction expected in 2021. The new portion of the trail will go through the former Waterloo Inn lands between King Street North and Weber Street North and will also serve as an access to Forwell Creek and the city's sani- tary sewer network for maintenance operations. The trail project will be undertaken along with the region's reconstruc- tion of Weber Street North that gets underway later this year and extends into 2021. There will be some fur- ther surface works to be completed on Albert Street in the spring - things that can't be done in the winter - like finishing the sidewalk on the north side. Surface asphalt will be placed on all three streets later in 2020. NEWS WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?
