Last month, city council circumvent- ed its bylaw that required developers to have site plans in place prior to demoli- tion. The region wants the applicant to dedicate a road widening free of encum- brances and would not proceed with the execution of the land transfer due to the existing building encroachment. With a bit of reluctance, Waterloo council OK'd the demolition of three resi- dential buildings at 199, 203 and 205 Al- bert Street. According to a staff report, a site plan application is currently under review with the city for the potential 25-storey tower, containing 179 residential units and commercial/office space on the first and second floors.
