Police and firefighters were called to the river's edge near Hunter Street in New Hamburg just before 8 a.m. when a man fishing saw a body floating in the water. Insp. John Goodman of Waterloo Regional Police said front-line officers and detectives responded to the Wilmot Township call. The man was pulled from the water near the dam close to William Scott Park. Goodman said an au- topsy will be conducted on the body in Toronto. It's too early to specu- late on the circumstances of the death or whether it is suspicious, he said. Police used a drone to take photographs and vid- eo of the area. "It (the drone) maps the scene for us," Goodman said. Kitchener firefighters also assisted with remov- ing the body from river. The annual Strummer- fest music festival takes place again this weekend in Waterloo Public Square Aug. 2 and 3. The free concert fea- tures 22 bands, duos and solo artists performing over two days, raising awareness and funds for local charities including, Your Life Counts, Water- loo Region Suicide Pre- vention Council, and House of Friendship - in the memory of former Clash frontman, Joe Strummer. Strummerfest, now in its seventh year, attracts an eclectic range of rock performers, from the in- tense punk rock of The Lucky Ones, to the ska en- ergy of the Theoretically Nameless Band, the indie rock stylings of Rose Cora Perry & The Truth Untold, the alternative originality of the Stephen Stanley Band, and the indie pop and rock of the Craig Dou- gan Trio (Dougan is also the leader of The Almost Hip, a successful Tragical- ly Hip tribute band). Find the full lineup and schedule at www.strum- merfest.ca. All proceeds earned at the show (through sales of festival T-shirts and but- tons) are donated to the event's supported chari- ties, and the festival itself is supported by an array of local businesses and indi- viduals.
