John Woods, vice-presi- dent of strategic Initiatives at St. Joseph's Health Sys- tem, will officially take over the role on July 24. He's already begun the transition period with out- going president Dr. An- drew Falconer. Falconer joined St. Mary's in February. In May it was announced he is stepping down to return to Queensway Carleton Hos- pital in Ottawa as its new chief executive officer. The Kitchener hospital is launching a national search for his successor. Woods has been involved with many successful initia- tives at St. Joseph's, a health-care organization that includes St. Mary's as the second largest acute care hospital in the system. "One of the many bene- fits of St. Mary's member- ship in the St. Joseph's Health System is being able to tap into its expertise when needed," said Tom Motz, chair of St. Mary's board of trustees. Motz said the board is confident that during this interim period Woods will continue the great strides St. Mary's has been making toward its cardiac program expansion and its strategic priorities for this year. Woods says he's "delight- ed" to be joining the team at St. Mary's while it searches for a permanent president.
