Metrolinx chief execu- tive officer Phil Verster an- nounced its reintroduction on Monday. GO Transit commuters were upset when the ex- press train was cancelled earlier this month and re- placed by a later all-stops departure with fewer coaches that cut the num- ber of seats. Verster thanked cus- tomers for their patience, calling the express service to Kitchener a "crucial ser- vice" in a video posted on Metrolinx's blog. "I want to just apologize to our customers for their stress on Jan. 7 and 8 as we introduced the new ser- vice," Verster said. "We are going to make much better preparations this time around to make sure every- one understands what trains have changed in size, length and platforms." Starting Feb. 13, Metro- linx will reintroduce the 4:50 p.m. express trip from Union Station along the Kitchener rail line. Like be- fore, the trip will run ex- press between Union Sta- tion and Bramalea GO Sta- tion and then serve all stops to Kitchener. More than 1,000 more seats will be added to the af- ternoon commute. A group of NDP MPPs in- cluding Waterloo's Cather- ine Fife and Kitchener Cen- tre's Laura Mae Lindo, had sent Transportation Minis- ter Jeff Yurek a letter asking for the immediate return of the 4:50 p.m. express train. "I'm happy for commut- ers that the 4:50 p.m. ex- press GO train to Bramalea and all subsequent stops is set to be reintroduced," Fife said by email on Monday. She said she hopes the province will consult with commuters before making any schedule changes in the future. Restoring the express route is a step in the right direction, but she said further improvements are needed in GO service to Wa- terloo Region. "I'll keep up the pressure until two-way, all-day GO to Kitchener-Waterloo is in place." Starting Feb. 13, Metrolinx will reintroduce the 4:50 p.m. express trip from Union Station along the Kitchener rail line. Like before, the trip will run express between Union Station and Bramalea GO Station and then serve all stops to Kitchener.
