A study is underway to create a high-level vision and design guide for a unique streetscape for University Avenue that can be implemented over time from Highway 85 to Westmount Road. From making custom cakes for friends in high school to her time as a stu- dent at Conestoga, the 29- year-old's passion for bak- ing was always there, prompting her to open the store, which is nearing its one-year anniversary. "When I was a kid, I loved baking. When I was in culinary school, I loved baking. I've always loved being a chef, I've always loved cooking, but baking always had my attention - even in high school, I made custom made cake for my friends," said Villeneuve, who graduated in 2010 from Conestoga College's culinary management pro- gram. She opened Bon Apa- Treat at the end of her ma- ternity leave, as she left her position at La Patisse- rie Fine Cakes and Pastries in Kitchener. Villeneuve, who also de- signs the cakes, says her bakery specializes in wed- ding and birthday cakes. The bakery's Sky High cakes, which sell for $45, are one of its most popular orders. While custom- made cakes are available, some of the specialized items are Ferrero Rocher, Grandma's Favourite and Day and Night - a best-sell- er. The Day and Night Cake is baked with alternating layers of rich chocolate cake and buttery vanilla cake as well as vanilla but- tercream and a layer of chocolate truffle filling- .Villeneuve added that Brownies and Blondies are also very popular, and sev- eral different flavours are offered. Birthday, Oreo, Reese, Cheesecake and Turtles are some of the brownies offered, while Double Lemon, Red Velvet and Oatmeal Chocolate Chip are a few of the Blon- dies that are offered- ."Brownies and blondies are usually first to go, peo- ple are obsessed with them, and they sell so well," she said.Each are available in party platters as well.The regular price for a brownie and a blondie is $3.85, and the mini size is $1.35. If ordered in bulk, the minimum per order is 24. The bakery is located off the roundabout where Trussler Road becomes Ira Needles Boulevard, on Highview Drive in Kitche- ner. Villeneuve, who grew up in the area and attended Forest Heights Collegiate for secondary school, said the location was important to her and being close to the area she grew up in. "I loved being artistic, and putting my flare on stuff, so I got really into making custom cakes for friends and family, and it just grew from there," said Villeneuve of her inspira- tion to open the bakery. For those with dietary restrictions, gluten-free, vegan and egg-less options are available. The bakery is open Wednesday to Friday, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Satur- day, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. But Villeneuve says as the staff expands, she hopes to ex- pand hours of operation. Bon ApaTreat Bakery also offers ice cream scoops and cookie sand- wiches. Thanksgiving is a par- ticularly busy time for the bakery as well as the win- ter season, because as the weather gets colder people look for "comfort," Ville- neuve said. Pumpkin spice cup- cakes and cakes are also a popular treat for this time of year.
