Dr. Arvanitis has developed a Revolutionary New Technique For Teeth In A Day Kevin Sepaul has played the same character on stage for the past 20 years, but he says it never gets dull. That's because his in- vestigation as detective Nick Rosetti in the hilari- ous whodunit Shear Mad- ness is always a bit differ- ent. It's also why the pro- duction, on stage at the St. Jacobs Schoolhouse Thea- tre from Sept. 12 to Dec. 23, holds the distinction in the Guinness World Re- cords of being America's longest running play. "I think some of the magic is that it's set the day when you go to see it in the town that you're going to see it in," said Sepaul. "There's so much local ref- erence that it really is a unique production every- where we go with it. It cre- ates energy literally for that night that doesn't ex- ist in another place." Described as "a blend of madcap improvisation," the play was adapted from a murder mystery origi- nally titled Scherensch- nitt, by German play- wright Paul Pörtner. Shear Madness de- buted in Boston at the Charles Playhouse Stage II in January 1980 and has been named 'Best Comedy of the Year' by the Boston Globe seven times during its 38-year run. It's been translated into 10 languag- es and seen around the globe. It certainly won't be its first time in a Drayton En- tertainment theatre. "We started here in St. Jacobs in 1998 and then we've just bounced from place to place over the years, some years off and some productions back- to-back, so it's just been a nice, long run," said Se- paul, a renovator by trade, who has appeared in other Drayton productions in- cluding Annie Get Your Gun, You'll get Used To It: The War Show and Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story. "We've had a number of different cast mates and there's always two or three different people that re- turn and two or three dif- ferent new people," he said of Shear Madness cast. The company for the upcoming run includes Jacquelyn French (Barba- ra DeMarco), Gord Gam- mie (Eddie Lawrence), Gregory Pember (Mikey Thomas), Andrea Risk (Eleanor Shubert) and Robbie Towns (Tony Whit- comb). They'll be under the direction of Bob Lohr- mann, the associate artis- tic director for the John F. Kennedy Center in Wash- ington D.C., where Shear Madness has broken nu- merous box office records during the past 30 years. The local company has been on some fairly large stages across Canada in the past, Sepaul said. "We've played Stage West with 700 people in there, and here at the schoolhouse with 100 plus, it just makes it more inti- mate and more connect- ed," he said. "A bigger crowd will tend to slow the show down and the energy can be pulled out of the comedy, so you gotta a re- ally push it. In the smaller house we have a little more leeway." Why yes, we do make good wine. As the small business owner of Simply Fine Wine, I have many worries and doubts. Here are just a few: Can I keep on top of things? Is my store attractive enough? What new products are out there? Can I access the newest juices available? What are the current fads? You might notice a little trend happening in my worries. It seems to be all about what is popular right now! Guess what! Great wine is not about trends or fashions. In many cases it is about taking time and doing things right. Jeff, our winemaker has been making wines for over 23 years and judging by the medals we win he must be doing something right. We take time selecting our wine kits. We choose from the best products out there. The juice we acquire is top of the line. We are very proud to say that Simply Fine Wine just won some more medals at the National level, competing with the best in Canada. SILVER for my 2015 Bordeaux and GOLD for our well aged dessert wine at the National competition in Nova Scotia. These wines are aged, and we encourage their aging. And we know how to treat people. You don't get an e-blast that hundreds of others get. You get a personal phone call direct to you. You get to talk to Pete, a person who is interested in making sure that your wine will be perfect for YOU. That is reflected with all our staff. Leanne and myself will work with you. We want you to have a great wine cellar that is going to reflect your lifestyle. Wine is very social, sharing with your friends and family, celebrating special events, giving as a gift, and having on your table at Christmas. You are going to be proud of your wine and happy to serve it. This means that we are looking after you. When you come in to bottle your wine we always ask you to taste it. Quite often we will put your wine on an ager so that you can experience how your wine will develop. With some of the bigger wines we can do a little tasting with you so that you can experience the subtle flavours and appreciate your wine even more. It is these extra services that we provide that make your experience at Simply Fine Wine even better. I recently had an experience with one of my suppliers who suggested that I get a younger person in to handle my social media. This was an implication that I was too old to handle "social media". I replied that at Simply Fine Wine we are not racist, sexist or ageist. I also explained to her that for somethings I may be too busy making great wines for my clients to spend time tweeting and texting, but I also explained that I'm old school. Some things work better with wine by using hands on methods just like things work better with people by using friendlier, personal methods. Should I worry about being popular? No, just about making fine wine and enjoying our wonderful cliental. Should I worry about the store being attractive? No, it's pink and it's pretty, and by the way the staff is pretty darned attractive too. You can drop in and give us your opinion as well.
