The plan is laying out our transportation vision, goals, objectives and priorities. It deals with Regional roads, Grand River Transit, cycling, walking, trucking, traveling outside the Region, and managing travel demand. Why It's Important to You Moving Forward is addressing how we will move within and around Waterloo Region in the future. It will show how the Region plans to promote travel choices, support a strong economy and be part of sustainable growth and development. This will affect everyone: car drivers and passengers, transit users, cyclists, pedestrians, businesses and commuters. Public Consultation Centre #3 This is the third and final series of Public Consultation Centres. Information on display for discussion will include what we have heard throughout the study, the Region's 2041 travel targets, and summaries of the transportation scenarios that are being studied, the preliminary recommended transportation scenario and strategies, and the cost implications of the recommended transportation scenario. But even if yoùre al- ready past the "post," it̀s not too late to implement tax saving strategies that work for you - starting with these income-pro- tecting objectives: • Always take full ad- vantage of all the direct tax deductions available to you. • Keep your net income and taxable income low enough to avoid such po- tential pitfalls as the Old Age Security (OAS) claw- back or losing out on the age credit and possibly the GST/HST credit. • Ensure that your monthly cash flow is not eroded by increases in the cost of living and that your investments will last a lifetime. In keeping with these objectives, here are some other important post-re- tirement tax-reduction and income-protection strategies: • Plan Registered Re- tirement Income Fund (RRIF) withdrawals: Withdrawals from invest- ments held in your RRIF are fully taxable - so man- age your taxable income by withdrawing only amounts that are re- quired. • Reduce taxes through tax efficient asset alloca- tion: Keep fully-taxable, interest-generating in- vestments inside a tax-de- ferred Registered Retire- ment Savings Plan (RRSP) or RRIF as long as possible while keeping assets that are more tax-efficient -those that generate capi- tal gains or Canadian divi- dends - outside your regis- tered plans. • Take full advantage of all available tax credits and deductions: Don't for- get the age credit for those aged 65 and older, the pen- sion income credit and medical expense credit. • Reduce your taxes by sharing Canada or Québec Pension Plan (CPP/QPP) income with your spouse: When your spouse has a lower CPP/QPP entitle- ment and is in a lower tax bracket. • Contribute to a spou- sal RRSP: You must con- vert your RRSP to a RRIF no later than December 31 of the year in which the owner attains age 71. These and other in- come-protecting and tax- saving strategies - like in- vesting in a Monthly In- come Portfolio (MIP) that can protect your income against inflation and gen- erate stable and reliable income distribution (out- side your RRIF or RRSP) and potentially higher long-term growth - will help ensure that yoùll con- tinue to have the income you need for all your re- tirement years.
