On the final weekend of the regular season, Morri- son became the highest- scorer in Laurier women's basketball history. Morrison, the Golden Hawks (10-14) most valu- able player all season long, eclipsed Meaghan McGrath's franchise re- cord of 1,371 career points by notching 15 points in Friday's overtime loss at Lakehead. Morrison's three-pointer in extra time pushed her past McGrath's park, which was set in 2006. "It's definitely awesome, for a while I did feel a bit of pressure to do it,' Morrison said. "I mean it's not the most important thing, [but] it does feel really goo to be able to accomplish something like that." Earlier in the season, Morrison broke McGrath's single-season record of 425 points. The fifth-year guard fin- ished with 462 points after Laurier dropped a second straight game to Lakehead on Saturday. Lakehead's Leashja Grant led the prov- ince with 535 points. Morrison also finished third in the OUA with 105 assists and third in free throws made with 118 as well as also ranking second in three-pointers made with 54. She added 21 points in Saturday's regular sea- son final, giving her a ca- reer total of 1,394, good for tenth-best mark in confer- ence history. The Hamilton native says she didn't know she broke the record till after the game, when her par- ents and "Nana", who flew in to watch the game, con- gratulated her. "My parents and Nana never missed a game in my career," said Morrison. "When I walked they were the first people to congrat- ulate me and let me know what's going on. I don't re- ally use social media a lot, so I wasn't aware of the re- cord till they told me. "I didn't even really know how close I was, I didn't really pay attention to that kind of stuff, I just wanted to play and not wor- ry about it." The communications major is focused on the up- coming playoff series against the very same Thunderwolves, which opens on Wed. Feb 21. Laurier lost by a com- bined five points to the Wolves over the weekend, 60-58 in OT on Friday, and 62-59 on Saturday. "It was definitely impor- tant, playing so close both games, it helps our team re- alize this is a team we can beat. We were able to try a bunch of things that we thought might help us on Wednesday."
