With 2,290 bedrooms being added throughout 11 resi- dential projects marketed to students for September 2017, more than 1,500 remain incomplete, according to a new City of Waterloo webpage. The page, launched a couple of weeks ago, lists multi- residential construction projects ongoing in Waterloo, the number of units and bedrooms each will have, and the number of bedrooms completed. It's updated as soon as the city awards developers occupancy permits, allowing tenants to move in. "Both the Mayor and I wanted to make sure tenants had accurate information about occupancy that the city was legally able to grant," said Northdale Coun. Jeff Henry. "We expect property owners to communicate promptly and accurately with their tenants about the status of con- struction. We also expect they will provide all accommo- dations required in leases and by provincial law should they not met their deadlines." This time last year, the city and local media was inun- dated with complaints from tenants of the then-brand new Icon building at the corner of Columbia and Phillip streets. Despite promising the condo would be finished in time for September 2016, Icon failed to deliver. Throughout the fall, move-in was delayed, furniture was missing from units, fire alarms went off regularly, promised services were not installed and construction was ongoing. In September 2015, IN8 Developments' Sage 2 on Hick- ory Street wasn't ready on time and a similar situation happened in 2014 with One Columbia.
