Jenn Weatherall, attempting to set the record for fastest half-marathon while pushing two children and pulling another two, was per- plexed. Her daughter, one of the four children involved in the record attempt, had to go No. 2 right in the middle of the race. "I didn't know what to do," said Weath- erall, a mother of two girls, four and seven. "We couldn't go off the course or we'd lose the record, so we were trying to fi gure out how to do it." But in the end, after seeing how much of a ruckus it caused, her daughter decided it would be best to hold it. In the end, it was crisis averted. Weatherall, despite taking 3:24 to complete the half mara- thon, set the record. Now it's just up to the Guinness World Records to get back to Weatherall and confi rm its legitimacy. Although it may seem simple in princi- ple, there's a lot of back- end work that goes into setting a record. Two witnesses must be present for the entire race and it must be recorded throughout. Weatherall wore a GoPro camera for the entire length of the race. Photos must also be taken at specific waypoints to prove that the run was actually completed. While the idea of a record is good, it begs one question: Why? "I had this crazy idea," said Weath- erall, who borrowed two children from her Waterloo home daycare for the race. "My daughters kind of laughed at me, so I wanted to prove to them that if you have an idea, you have to follow through on it." It wasn't an easy task by any means. Weatherall was used to pushing her two daughters during half marathons -- her time is usually about two hours-plus. But with 180 pounds of total weight spread between the two strollers, plus a jarring windy, cold day, that time increased by an hour. Since the birth of her fi rst daughter, Weath- erall has run a half marathon with either one or both of her children in an attempt to get them acclimatized to the sport she picked up when she was 30. Weatherall started running in a way to have freedom. She didn't start driving until she was in her 30s, but she knew her feet could get her anywhere she wanted to go. She also uses the sport as a way to meditate and clear her mind for her true passion -- writing. Weatherall is a playwright, artist, actor, singer and blogger. And while records are made to be broken, this one might stay in the books a little longer. "It's kind of a crazy thing to do," said Weatherall. "I don't see anyone else trying it."
