Feast for the Senses V: An Eve- ning of Art, Food, and Drink (Feast V) Feb. 23, from 7 to 10 p.m. "Our guests will enjoy the unique sensory experience of a visual journey through the art of Kent Monkman coupled with the tasty sensations of the dishes and drink pairings created by Shawn Adler," said KWAG's Executive Director Shirley Madill. " ought-provoking art on the walls meets art for the pal- ate: the result is one unforget- table evening." Monkman's four epic canvases -- each measuring about seven by 11 feet -- are on view at KWAG as part of the exhibition e Four Conti- nents until March 21, 2017. A Canadian artist of Cree ancestry, Monkman has been lauded for his work, a humorous and often sexually- charged critique of Canada's colonial past. Monkman has had solo exhibitions at numerous Canadian museums includ- ing the Montreal Museum of Fine Art, the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art in Toronto, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and the Art Gallery of Hamilton. He has participated in vari- ous group exhibitions interna- tionally, and his work is rep- resented in numerous public and private collections in Can- ada and abroad. At Feast V, Adler will share the visual inspiration behind each culinary o ering. "I am flattered to have been invited to work with the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gal- lery on this Kent Monkman exhibition, and hope everyone will enjoy my culinary cre- ations inspired by Monkman's works," said Adler. Adler is Anishnabe and a member of Lacs Des Milles First Nation. His mother was born in Thunder Bay and attended residential school. His Jew- ish father fled the Nazis with his parents during the Second World War. Adler and his four siblings grew up in Orangeville and enjoyed a small town upbring- ing.
