Poje, Weaver ready for new beginnings at Canadian Figure Skating Championships By Adam Jackson Chronicle Staff andrew Poje and Kaitlyn Weaver are no strangers to the Canadian Figure skating Championships. But with a new coach and new direction, it could be the start of something big for the ice dance pair as momentum builds to the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics. since september, the former members of the Kitchener-Waterloo skating Club have been working with russian coach nikolai Morozov and along with that change, they've moved all of their training to russia. at the Canadian Figure skating Champion- ships, at which they will compete on Friday and saturday, the pair has a lot on the line. They will defend back-to-back senior pairs titles and, most of all, it will give them a first place victory for this season. so far in the 2016-2017 cycle, the pair has silver and bronze medals from the Grand Prix competitions in China and russia, respectively. "This season has been one of many adven- tures and changes and traditions," said Weaver, a Texas native who moved to Canada to train with Poje. "We've been working so hard with nikolai … we feel like we skated very well (at the Grand Prix events) unfortunately, it wasn't enough to qualify for the final, but sometimes you have to take one step back to take two steps forward." Weaver said the pair feels rested, energized and excited for the second half of the treacher- ous figure skating season. The Canadian Figure skating Champion- ships started on Monday and the senior ice dance competition starts on Friday. Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew poje are looking forward to new beginnings at the Canadian Figure skating Championships on Friday and saturday.
