As of 2 p.m. on Tuesday -- 10 hours before the mid- night Ontario Hockey Association trade deadline -- the Siskins had not made any major moves. "We are extremely happy with where we are right now," said Matt Fidlin, the Siskins' general manager in an email. Although there's no big splash at the trade deadline, the Siskins were able to add some key pieces quietly through Decem- ber. The Siskins added forwards Noah Benja- min from the Stratford Warriors, Nolan Regan from the Brantford 99ers and Lucas Pozzobon from the Guelph Hurricanes. But with the new additions come other changes. Early in December, forward -- and captain -- Luke Gazzola was traded to the Junior C Ayr Centennials as they prepare for an Allen Cup run. The team also lost defenceman Nick King, who had 14 points through 18 games. He was called up by the Owen Sound Attack. "Losing Nick King was a tough thing at first but it is an opportunity for him to play where he wanted too. We want to promote our play- ers and that's what we did with Nick," said Fidlin. The Siskins may have to work a little more late-season magic if they want a deep playoff run this season. Last season, the Siskins sat in seventh place in the conference with only eight wins. After a second half that was nothing short of miraculous, the Sis- kins found themselves in sixth place and a hot streak through the playoffs led them to the Cherrey Cup finals, which was eventually won by the Stratford Warriors (then named Cullitons) With a 19-12-1-3 record, the Siskins sit in fifth place in the Midwestern Conference of the GOJHL, but only seven points separate third and sixth place in the conference. "We believe we have a chance to win. We would like to add some minor pieces but also won't risk our future," said Fidlin. The Siskins visited the Kitchener Dutch- men on Tuesday night, but results were not available by press time. They visit Stratford on Friday night, before hosting the Cambridge Winter Hawks on Sunday at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex at 1:30 p.m.
