Married: Eleanor Hughes

Clayton Wells was the son of Walter Wells, a dentist and business man in Waterloo. When Clayton grew up he decided to enter the dentist profession himself [Note in margin: Royal College of Dentist Surgery]. He had the enviable record of sharing the office above Snyder Drug Store with his father for some years. Wells continued his practice after his Dad retired and spent 39 years serving the dental needs of Waterloo. In his spare time he was keenly interested in the life of the community - in public affairs, music, parks, athletic activities (particularly bicycling), fraternal societies, history and travel. For the era in which he lived, he travelled extensively, having seen most states in the United States and having toured most European countries. His obituary stated that “he was most prominent in public life and was widely known - a public-spirited citizen.”
