B.: 1847 D.: 1931

Married: Henrietta Miller

George Suggit was a resident of Waterloo for most of his life. When he became of age, he was a moulder in Bricker Foundry and also worked for a time in the Seagram Stables. About 1890 he took a position as clerk in the Commercial Hotel at King and Dupont Sts. All hotels had livery stables back then and the Commercial Hotel was no exception. About 1906 hotel owner Henry Raisig decided to sell his livery stables and Suggit, probably very aware of its operation and value, purchased the premises. He sold to Winkler in 1912. The new Post Office was opened across the street and George Suggit was appointed caretaker where he and his wife had an apartment on the third floor of the clock tower. He was interested in local politics, serving on Town Council for 2 terms and several years on County Council, being elected Reeve in 1895. Suggit continued his Post Office job until his death in 1931.
