Elroy Shantz was the son of Cleason Shantz who farmed on the south side of Erb St. E. When the farm was sold to build the Mueller Cooperage and the Globe Furniture Factory, Elroy bought the store opposite the old farm on corner of Foundry (Euclid) St and Erb St. E. Ray Derbecker, an employer of Canada Barrels and Kegs, remembers Elroy bringing a load of refreshments from his story across the road when the factory had a mid-morning and afternoon break.
