Levi Shuh was son of John Shuh who owned a general store in Unit 4 of Commercial Block. As a young man, Levi worked in the store and when his father left to be involved in other matters including the insurance field, Levi took over ownership. He took on a partner in the venture by the name of J.B. Snider. The business was called Shuh and Snider. In 1891 the partners sold the store and in 1893 Levi joined the Waterloo Mutual Fire Insurance Company which his father had helped to found and was 1st Treasurer. In 1898 Frank Haight was made manager of Mutual Fire and Shuh became assistant manager. Again when Haight died in 1915, Shuh was given the manager’s job. In 1924 Levi retired as manager and was appointed President of the Waterloo Mutual Fire Insurance Company.
