b. 1838 d. 1903
Married - Mary Ann Springer

Henry Roos, another son of John R. Roos of Preston came to Waterloo in the early 1860s, probably about the time his brother Jacob S. started his first shoemaking business on King St. Soon after moving to Waterloo, he became involved in the hardware business and in 1864 was listed as a clerk in Wm Fischer’s General store, which had a considerable stock of hardware items. In 1867 a notice appeared in the local paper that a new hardware store named Henry Roos & Co. was open for business in Mr. Fischer’s old stand. It appears the store was soon purchased by a Mr. Fearman because Roos is next listed working in Fearman’s Hardware on the same site. Roos went on to work for N. Killer & Son Hardware on King St S and also worked for Weichel Hardware that replaced the Killer store. Henry had married Mary Ann Springer, daughter of Moses Springer. He constructed a large home on the corner of George and Willow Sts to accommodate a family of 10 children. But probably his most lucrative endeavour was when he and druggist Simon Snyder took over the [illegible] Furniture Company, located in the Devitt-Snider Block. The Snyder, Roos & Co factory turned many furniture products including upholstered furniture, spring beds and mattresses. Snyder, Roos & Co was one of 14 companies in 1902 to amalgamate to form the Canada Furniture Company at King S and Allen Sts.
