Julius Roos, eldest son of Jacob S Roos, was born in 1857 in Preston and came with parents to Waterloo in 1861. No doubt he helped in his Dad’s shoe business when he was a youth. However, he decided that the rapidly-growing insurance business was more to his liking. He joined the staff of the Ontario Mutual Life Assurance Company where he helped in 1888 to move the company into the brand new office building at corner of Erb and Albert Sts. He worked his way up to Treasurer in the company and remained there for twenty years retiring in 1923. Called Father of Bd of Trade, he was a very big supporter of the Board of Trade for Waterloo and was the one who pushed most for the town to buy the Eby Farm that became Westside Park (later Waterloo park) in 1895.
