This is a handwritten biography of Carl "Baldwin" Poehlman from the Ellis Little Papers. This biography has been transcribed exactly as written. Ellis Little was a local historian, who was the principal of Elizabeth Ziegler Public School.On his retirement, he invested much of his time in researching and writing about Waterloo's history. The Ellis Little Papers consist of extensive notes, papers and historical works.

Born in Saxony, Germany, Baldwin Poehlman came to Waterloo at the age of 19. When he married ____ he moved into a home on Erb St. W. and remodelled the front part to be a barber shop. He continued this occupation for over 60 years but it appears he was more interested in music, especially singing. He became singing leader for the Concordia Club. In the Saengerfests (singing and musical competitions) that started in the Twin Cities in the 1870s Poehlman took a leading part. He was the conductor of the male choruses in the 1902 celebration.
