Description
This is a handwritten biography of Albert Pagel from the Ellis Little Papers. This biography has been transcribed exactly as written. Ellis Little was a local historian, who was the principal of Elizabeth Ziegler Public School.On his retirement, he invested much of his time in researching and writing about Waterloo's history. The Ellis Little Papers consist of extensive notes, papers and historical works.

Albert Pagel was born in Germany and came to Waterloo in the early 1900s. He joined the Waterloo Fire Department in 1910 when horses were still used as motive power. He was appointed Assistant Chief in 1914. After the death of chief George Karges, he was given the top post in 1940. When Waterloo became a city in 1948, Pagel was designated as city sanitary and building inspector. He retired in 1958 and he died in Pinehaven Nursing Home in 1990 just one month short of attaining 100 years old.
