Married – Elizabeth Kiehm

Christian Letter was born in Prussia, Germany and came as a single young man to Waterloo c1850. He married Elizabeth Kiehm in 1856. He worked as a labourer in the construction industry and eventually had a construction business of his own that specialized in masonry work. Much of his work has gone unrecorded but he is documented as doing the masonry and brick work for the Alexandra Hotel built by David Kuntz in 1874. Also, he purchased a building on the corner of Albert and Dupont St c1877, and remodeled it as a hotel that he sold to Louis Zoerger in 1878. The hotel was named the Market Hotel because the Waterloo Market located in and around the Town Hall just across the street.
