But that‘s not how the badminton team at Bluevale collegiate institute plays the game. To sum up their game in one word, it‘s about power. Power serving, power smashing and doing whatever they can to put their opponents on the defensive. By playing that power game, they were able to shake off that stodgy old image of badâ€" minton and recently bring home titles in junior boys singles and senior girls doubles at WCSSAA. Power display leads to titles for Knights Karsten Beney followed that up by winning the school‘s first CWOSSA junâ€" ior boys title, while Laura Mcintosh and Caitlin Muirhead came up just short of making it a double. And to understand how they got there, all you have to look at is the athâ€" letic pedigree they bring to the badâ€" minton court. Mcintosh is the most highâ€"profile athlete of the three after accepting a full scholarship to Ohio State University in the fall to play hockâ€" ey at the U.S. school next season, and suiting up with Team Ontario and the Underâ€"18 Women‘s National team. But she‘s also a star on the fieldâ€" hockey pitch, and is surprising everyâ€" one with her latent soccer skills with the twoâ€"time defending Bluevale Knights senior girls‘ soccer team. So is there anything she can‘t do?" "There‘s a few I haven‘t tried yet," said the 17â€"yearâ€"old last Wednesday.
