The City of Waterloo plans on reconstructing Margaret Avenue South between Erb Street and the City of Kitchener boundary. In preparing for this reconstruction, IBI Group has conducted a study of existing traffic conditions on the entire Margaret Avenue corriâ€" dor within the City of Waterloo as shown to the right. The purpose of this review is to identify possible traffic issues or problems, consider possible alternative solutions and develop a staged recommendation plan/program to address any major traffic issues and problems. Based on traffic improvement experience elsewhere in the City of Waterloo and other cities, The City of Waterloo has concluded that the following traffic calming measâ€" ures will be completed as part of the Margaret Avenue South reconstruction: * Install a miniâ€"roundabout at the Margaret/ Union intersection; + Extend the east side sidewalk along Breithaupt Park; * Install a channelization island at the Rodney / Margaret interâ€" section to prohibit left turns from Rodney; * Add marked onâ€"road biked lanes on Margaret Avenue South from Erb Street to the City boundary; * Install a midâ€"block raised island between Erb Street and Rodney Street; * Install curb extensions with onâ€"street parking stalls along the edge of Breithaupt Park; and + Review the City‘s truck route policies as they affect Margaret Avenue. In future stages of potential Margaret Avenue North reconstruction between Erb Street and Lincoln Road, the City will consider installing curb extensions at the Margaret Avenue intersections with Washington, Vermont, Murdock and Neilson. Retention of existing onâ€"street parking is also planned as a traffic calming feaâ€" ture on Margaret Avenue North. This recommended traffic program will be presented to City Council at their regular meeting on February 25, 2008. Should any member of the public wish to address Council on this program, they are requested to register as a delegation with the Clerks/Corporate Secretary Service at 519â€"747â€"8549 no later than 9:00 am on Monday February 25, 2008.
