A Kâ€"W Granite Club rink will be playâ€" ing in the TSC Tankard men‘s provincial championships Feb. 4â€"10 at the Waterâ€" loo Memorial Recreation Complex. Daryl Shane and his rink, Dylan Tipâ€" pin, Aaron Johnson and Kevin Fanjoy, qualified by winning the West Chalienge Round last week at the Ontario Curling Association playdown in Meaford, Ont. The Kâ€"W rink, winners of the A draw met and eliminated Guelph‘s Greg Balsâ€" don in the final game of the double elimination event. The field for this year‘s TSC Stores Tankard is very strong with current world champ Glenn Howard‘s Coldwaâ€" ter rink defending his title against forâ€" mer world champ Wayne Middaugh, and Olympic silver medallist and forâ€" mer Ontario champ Mike Harris. Other contenders include Peter Corâ€" ner, who played on Russ Howard‘s world championship teams, who qualified in the regional playdowns. There will be a total of 10 teams in the draw. The Granite Club‘s Shane said he likes the draw and is looking forward to the beginning of the roundâ€"robin play next Monday at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex. The Kâ€"W Granite Club is showing its support for the local team with a button campaign. s â€" s The Win Tankard button is being sold to curling fans at the Kâ€"W Granite Club for $2. Proceeds go to the local Little Rock program, but the moral support is going to KW‘s first Tankard team to play in an Ontario championship in their home town. Nine Region of Waterloo Swim Club swimmers competed at the 2008 senior provincial championships at the Uniâ€" versity of Toronto last week. ROW ‘s Keith Beavers won the 200 back, silver in the 100 fly and placed in the top 8 in the 50 free, 100 breastâ€" stroke, 100 free and 200 free. Beavers led the backstroke leg to help the ROW‘s 4x100 medley relay to win the gold. Matt Mains swam the breast leg, Zach Summerhayes the fly and Allan Sundby anchored with a strong freestyle perâ€" formance. They swam to a fourthâ€"place overall ranking. â€" Summerhayes also picked up his first senior provincial gold winning the 200 individual medley while Matt Mains won the 100 and 200 breast. Mains, 26, has been recovering from surgery on a herniated disk and is on the mend and putting in some solid performances. _ David Hughes, Bronwyn Kemp and Carly Martin each had solid performâ€" ances winning a bronze medal. Hughes swam the 1,500 free, Kemp the 200 breaststroke and Martin the 200 butterfly. Young sprint sensation Allan Sundby picked up some valuable experience placing in the top eight in the 50 free and 100 free, while young developing midâ€"distance swimmer Ross Bennett helped the 200 medley to a fifth place finish. ROW member Laura Kendall, repreâ€" senting the University of Guelph, swam to a bronze medal in the 800 free.
