love of baseball has earned a A:Walerluo coach a provincial oaching award. Dave Jantzi, the coach of the Waterâ€" loo bantam AAA baseball team, was honoured by Baseball Ontario as youth coach of the year earlier this month. Jantzi has been involved in baseball in the community for two decades, in both house league and higher levels. "It feels really good, of course. It‘s nice to be recognized for my years of service," he said. Jantzi, 55, didn‘t get the opportunity to play much baseball when he was a kid but has always loved the sport. He‘s more than made up for that as an adult, both playing and coaching the sport. â€" â€" o _ "I love everything about baseball," he said. "No. 1 is being in a ballpark. It‘s pretty relaxing, it‘s outdoors." _ _ "It‘s not in here," he adds with a laugh, gesturing to his office in Kitchenâ€" er. Local coach gets provincial award "It‘s the timelessness. There‘s always an opportunity till the last out, anything can happen," he said. _ _ But it‘s not just the pace that draws Jantzi to the sport. His bantam team didn‘t have a staâ€" tistically good year in the 2007 season, finishing with a .500 record, but Jantzi said he was happy with the output. We were in a tough division and we got to the Ontario eliminations, which only the best teams in the province get to compete in," he said. Jantzi will have a shot with some of the same players next year when he takes over the reins of the midget team.
