Merkle will be up against 40 of the nations best gymnasts ages 10â€"12 at the Elite Canada competition. Merkle had topâ€"six placings on every event, resulting in a thirdâ€"place finish in the allâ€"around competition. . "My wife and I couldn‘t be more pleased with the result and with the way Stefanie competed this weekend," said Revolution Gymnastics coâ€"caach Aaron Brokenshire, who runs the elite program at the local club along with his wife Angela. "This was her entrance into the big time national level compeâ€" tition scene and she entered with style and poise." After Elite Canada, Merkle and three of her teammates will travel to Florida for the Sand Dollar Invitational held at Disney‘s Wide World of Sports in Orlanâ€" do, Fla. The highlight of the weekend was Merkles® winning performance on the balance beam where she hit a rock solid routine and beat out a current national team member to capture the gold. They will then try for a berth in the Canadian National Championships to be held in Calgary, Alta., in the spring. They played a tight final game against Burlington, the top team of their league, holding them to one goal for most of the contest. Assists went to Meghan Downey and Lauren Brignolio. WCI wins two titles In the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League, the bantam C Waterloo Ravens beat Cambridge 2â€"1 last weekend. The Waterloo collegiate Vikings added two more CWOSSAA titles this weekend after the senior boys volleyball team and the junior girls basketball team won their championships. Waterloo Ravens goal scorers were Emily Doherty and Calla Raymond. The Vikings surprised everyone after failing to reach the WCSSAA finals. But they earned a berth to CWOSSA by winâ€" ning the thirdâ€"place game, and used that adversity to their advantage to win their third title in five years. They now travel to Mississauga for the OFSAA Quad A finals where the will be the No. 5 seed. The WCI junior girls followed up a win aver Bluevale in the WCSSAA finals by bring home the CWOSSA title from Guelph last Saturday. Bantam C Ravens beat Cambridge
