The flu shot immunizes against major strains of the influenza virus, which can wreak havoce on respiratory systems, said Lesley Rintche, the manâ€" ager of immunization and vaccination for the region. A lot of people avoid the flu shot due to a fear or intense dislike of needlies, but it‘s a key tool in staying healthy in the winter months, Rintche said. "You‘re basically knocked off your feet for two weeks if you get the flu. That has implications for your family and work lives," she said. The Waterloo Region Bed and Breakfast Associâ€" ation, a local nonâ€"profit group, is again hostâ€" ing a Home for the Holidays B&B tour and marâ€" ketplace to support the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre. The event will be held on Nov. 24 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Nov. 25 from noon until 5 p.m. at various bed and breakfast locations across Waterloo Region. The cost to attend is $2 per home. The first clinic in Waterloo is Nov, 8 at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex from 2 p.m. â€" 8 p.m. The clinics continue through November and December at various locations in the city. There has been no case this year thus far, she added.
