aterloo has had a lot to celebrate Win the last year with its 150th anniversary and being selected as the World‘s Top Intelligent Community at the Intelligent Community Forum in New York, N.Y. But what makes Waterloo home? And what‘s the first thing that you talk about in telling the story of your hometown? _ Is it a favourite park or the local indeâ€" pendent cinema? Do you talk about the festivals, like last week‘s 19th annual Buskers carnival. Or are you proud of the economic accomplishments of the local highâ€"technology industry like Research in Motion and its worldâ€"famous BlackBerry device. Are there secrets you share only with a select few? Or are there things you‘d like to get the word out about? A group of 20 to 25 local residents will get their chance when WNEDâ€"TV comes to town in September for their Our Town feature to be broadcast in December. Those local volunteers will be sent out into the community with their own camâ€" corders and will bring back images and stories that will tell a potential audience of 1.3 million people why this is such an unique place to live. For those unfamiliar with WNEDâ€"TV‘s Our Town series, or even what WNEDâ€"TV is in the first place, they are the U.S. pubâ€" lic broadcaster that reaches the bulk of the heavily populated southern Ontario TV market. The public broadcaster has been home to such internationally acclaimed series as Nova and Frontline, and has also been part of the lives of many children locally with its worldâ€"class children‘s programming like Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers‘ Neighbourhood. It serves western New York and Canaâ€" da. Why Canada you say? _ _ Because southern Ontario has become an important media market, and the public broadcaster based in Buffalo has known for quite some time that Canadiâ€" ans make up a major part of their audiâ€" ence. So much so that the station changed its call sign to include Toranto as Our Town series is coming to Waterloo Do you have By Bos VRBANAC Chronicle Staff Continued on page 4 4 AuprotoGy anD HEARING Aip SERvicEs Auburn Centre 570 University Ave. E., (Suite 905) Waterloo «_«â€"= 519â€"886â€"2416 wone"s * HEARING LOSS Tallullah, aka Sharon Mahoney, had them in stitches duting- the opening night of the Waterloo Busker Carnival last Thursday with her unique mix of humour and tricks.
