The Afro Festival â€" where admission is free â€" has evolved significantly over the past six years. The first one attracted a mere 300 guests, although the mayor and other politicians did come out to show their support. "Not many people were there," said Lilian Vitale, 41, one of the event‘s organizers. "But, it was not bad." Festivalâ€"goers were treated to dancing, fashion shows and music. This year the organizers are expecting the attendance to rise to more than 3,000 people. â€" Local and international musical acts will entertain the crowd, including Somalian singer Caruus, one of Mohamud‘s favourites.
