But Bloch is up for the challenge. "We‘re going to heat up the phone lines and see who we can find," he said, lookâ€" ing to improve on the Siskins‘ eighthâ€" place finish last year. Siskins looking to recapture lost glory _ The club bowed out in the first round of the playoffs against Cambridge, and hasn‘t won a playoff series since 1998. _ The only issue is the Siskins‘ recruitâ€" ment drive will be getting started a little later than they would have liked with the change at the top. But Bloch hopes to use the contacts he has in the scouting circles to beat the bushes for new playâ€" Plus, the Siskins graduated only one player off their roster this year in Nick Gill, so they could still have a solid veterâ€" an nucleus of players returning to next year‘s team. But that doesn‘t mean that the returning players won‘t have to work for their spots, and they will be asked to attend a rookie camp that the club will be holding May 11â€"12 so that the new Siskins management team can become more familiar with the team. The biggest adjustment for Bloch will be coaching on the big ice surface at the Waterioo Memonial Recreation Comâ€" That competition for spots will only benefit the Siskins when they lace up their skates for game action in the fall. "We know we have some good players in town, and I‘m sure we‘ve got some good players on the team right now," said Bloch. "I guess I‘m going to have to put the handbook away on bump and grind hockey," he said. "It‘s certainly a differâ€" ent style of game in this rink. "But you also have to keep in mind you‘re still going into Elmira and Listowâ€" plex‘s Clarica Arena. el to play games. You can‘t go into those rinks and have everybody hide on the bench." "We‘re going to heat up the phone lines and see who we can find." "I don‘t think you‘ll find a better rink or facility to play in," he said. Burjoski, who was brought on to handle more of the business side of the reorganization, which included bringing in Nathan Grieve as the new business manager of the team, said the Siskins number 1 priority is improving their player retention. Looking around the league, there are multiple teams sportâ€" ing Waterloo minor hockey grads on their rosters, including goalie Louis George who is backstopping the Camâ€" bridge Winter Hawks in the Sutherland Cup finals. "We want to make sure that these Waterloo minor hockey players don‘t wander away on us the way they might have in the past," said Burjoski, with two strong Waterloo midget teams graduatâ€" ing players over the next couple of years. The existing board of the team will remain intact to advise and support that committee and to maintain game day, auxiliary and booster club activities. But getting the Siskins financial house in order is also part of the team‘s priority list with a new special operating committee struck to ensure the longâ€" term viability of the franchise and to return it to the community prominence it once enjoyed. Burjoski will lead the new committee. "There will be every effort made to reâ€"connect with the community along with its many successful companies and business leaders," said a statement issued by the club.
