The 2007 Bechtel Lectures in Anabaptistâ€"Mennonite studâ€" ies with Canadian author Sanâ€" dra Birdsell will be held this Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Conrad Grebel Great Hall in the academic building. She has described her lecâ€" tures as the confessions of a reluctant Mennonite. As a young person in search of an ethnic and cultural identiâ€" ty, Birdsell‘s question, What is a Mennonite? went unanswered. Her first lecture will revisit the range of conclusions she arrived at after years of studying She was left to make assumptions based on her observations. In the second lecture, she will recall how she reâ€"examined her Mennonite heritage and her Russian Mennonite rela tives. It will offer a commentary on the influence their heritage had on her development as a writer.
