The four committees consist of: sports and recreation, comâ€" munity issues. arts and culture, and the dance committee. But it‘s also a time to be extra cauâ€" tious around rivers and streams as warmer weather this weekend will start to melt snow and ice, particularly in urban areas. Riverbanks will be slippery and the water remains cold. Children should be warned to stay away from rivers and streams and to stay off the ice. The GRCA is offering crossâ€"country skiing at three conservation areas: Laurel Creek in Waterloo (519â€"884â€" 6620), Shade‘s Mills in Cambridge (519â€"621â€"3697) and Pinehurst Lake near Paris (519â€"442â€"47211. Trails are groomed, trackset and in good condition. Skiiers should contact the parks for current condition inforâ€" mation. Ice fishing is still going at Belwood Lake near Fergus (519â€"843â€"2979) and Shade‘s Mills. Belwood has bait for sale. No huts are available at either park. So far this year the sports and recreation committee has yet to hold any events, though there is at least one in the mix. They are hoping to plan a dodgeball tournament where the public can build a team and play against others to see who will emerge as the victor. Last year the sports and recreation committee hosted a dropâ€"in basketball clinic at RIM Park, where the WLU men‘s basketball players worked with the young players. The committee also, as a team, walked in the spring to raise money for multiple scleâ€" rosis. Those who are interested in joining a particular committee or have an idea for an event, can contact the facilitators, Marija Milinkovic or Regis Dudâ€" ley, via email at waterlooyouthâ€" council@hotmail.com.
