A view of Waterioo major portion of the town of A\’aterlmy is seen in this painting rom 1900. In the foreground is the corner of King and William Streets. The artist might be on the roof of one of the buildings making up the sprawling Kuntz Brewery complex that covered much of the block at the southâ€"west corner of the intersection. On the far side of King Street, just below the artist, is half of the parkland, straddling King Street, on which a weekly farmers‘ market was held. Diagonally across the corner is one of Waterloo‘s many hotels, the Alexanâ€" der Hotel, a corner of its stable (today Marbles Restaurant) just visible beside it Northward, the two sides of King Street offer as much of a contrast as they do today. On the east side are row housing, treed properties and taller buildings holding shops, businesses and residences.
