Customers may experience discolourcd water in the Cleaning watermains is a necessary maintenance p:- cedure that will reduce the number of incidences of discoloured water in your area. This cleaning involves flushing potable water at a high velocity through the watermains to clean them. No chemical cleaning agents are being used. Between April 17, 2006 and May 26, 2006. The City of Waterloo Utilities Section will be cleaning watermains in the area bound by University Ave and Westmount Rd to the west, Northfield Dr to the north, Conestoga Pkwy to the east. and Waterloo/Kitchener boundary to the south ( see map). This cleaning will be performed weekdays, Monday - Friday during the hours of 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. A detailed map and schedule that shows when the watermain servicing your property will be cleaned has been included with this notice. This detailed schedule is available on the C ity's website www.city.waterloo.on.ca under watermain cleaning. However, if you notice that your water is starting to discolour, you should discontinue use. wait approximately one hour, then allow a hard cold water tap to run for a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes until the water is clear. We recommend that you do not drink discoloured water. During the flushing program if you have an automatic water conditioning system such as a water softener or filtration system you may want to place them on bypass, until after your section is completed. On your scheduled flushing day, we suggest the follow- ing optional precautionary measures to minimize the possibility of receiving discoloured water: . During the above hours (8 to 6), do not use any water. If possible turn otTthe main valve at the meter in your building to prevent accidental usage. . Store a sufficient reserve of potable water for use during the above hours. . After 6:00 pm, open a hard water tap to flush the system before regular water use. We apologize for any inconvenience.
