Developer feels the heat local housing development compaâ€" A‘r:y is moving ahead with a lawsuit against a Waterloo mother despite outcries from people across the country. The Activa Group, based on Bridge Street in Waterloo, served Louisette Lanteigne with a statement of claim almost two weeks ago in response to her web site that accuses the developer of past and present unsafe practices and conditions on its work sites in Waterloo and Kitchener. News of the lawsuit was picked up this week by national media outlets, promptâ€" ing anger and sympathy among people across Canada. The reaction has been so powerful that the Activa Group issued a media release Monday stating. "Since the story was published last week... and broadcast on local and national television, our offices have received calls from concerned citiâ€" zens who have unabashedly detailed their disagreement with our actions. There have also been many callers that have used profanity, threats and have attacked our company in what we can only describe as unprofessional and disâ€" turbing behaviour." Citizens from coast to coast outraged over lawsuit against Waterloo mother In its statement of claim, Activa states it‘s seeking $2 million from Lanteigne for what the company calls defamatory statements posted on a web site she creâ€" ated last spring. The media release states the company also wants the "false statements and misâ€" characterizations be removed immediâ€" ately." The company claims it has not asked that the web site be shut down. "Her web site contains untrue and defamatory statements." said lawyer Greg Murdoch, representing the Activa Group. "Activa‘s in an unfortunate position... but Activa must protect its reputation against these untrue statements. That‘s why the company had to take these steps."
