WCI grad wins scholarship Continued from page 13 "It worked out pretty well," said Dudley. "It took a lot of patience to get the bins out on time." But she didn‘t stop there. She started volunteering with the City of Waterloo four years ago, and joined their summer camps proâ€" grams as a youth leader. In that time, she has brought in another recycling proâ€" gram for the kids, rewardâ€" ing them for all the reusing and recycling they do in the short week she spends with them before the next crop of kids comes in. cling efforts, and hopes those efforts continue now that she has graduated. That adds up to a lot of kids getting the environâ€" mental message of reduce, reuse and recycle through the summer program. "It‘s kind of like a point system." said Dudley. "If they reuse something, like a Tupperware container, they get two points; if they recyâ€" cle something they get one. "That way they bring in more reusables and recyâ€" clables. And at the end of the week. the people who bring in the most reusables and recyclables get to pie a leader in the face." Whatever it is she choos es to pursue, Dudley said it has to be environmentally sustainable. She doesn‘t want to leave to many more footprints behind. Dudley said she doesn‘t mind taking a pie in the face jor the planet Earth as long as it gets the kids to think about it on a daily basis. Her own example of carâ€" ing was one of the reasons she was selected for the Waterloo award. "Hopefully, 1 can find something that can help people and the environâ€" ment." "But I try to focus on the ones who do care. It‘s nice to know that some people are affected." "It was exciting when I found out," said Dudley, who plans to continue her passion for the environâ€" ment at university. "It‘s realâ€" ly going to help me. "I know in the future I want to do something that has to do with the environâ€" ment, and ) like helping people too. "It‘s hard because a lot of people don‘t think about it," she said. "They can care less. and will never care very much. "HMHopefully I can find something that helps people and the environment." â€" Regis Dudley Scholarship winner Restaurant & Bar 583 King Street North â€" 880â€"1189 I{if Bplf: Rased an avadable competwe brochuce adormatioe wwos» ...
