The Parisian bachelor has an apartment close to Orly Airport, and with the help of his uber-efficient housekeeper Bertha. is managing three ongoing romantic liaisons with three different stewardesses - from TWA, Lufthansa and Air France. The three airline host- uses are completely unaware of the others' exis- tence. as Bernard maintains a carefully scheduled love life based on their travels. Let's see. it's Janet today, Judith tonight, Jacqueline Iomnrrow. However. with the arrival of Robert. a friend of Bernard's who has every intention of staying at the apartment for a short visit, the Iothario's complicated love hits a prolonged patch of turbulence. Add the technologically advanced Boeing airplane into the mix. which makes travelling a kn more conve- nient for Bernard); dames. and you have a farce that flies to new heights of hilari- ty, 7 When everyone corp verges in the tiny apartment Bryan Foster, as Robert, and Robin Ward. as Bernard. rehearse a scene from Drayton Enter- tainment's summer production of Boeing-Boeing at the Schoolhouse Theatre in St. Jacobs. at the same time. Bernard is forced to employ his good friend in the series of com- plicated events. As little white lies quickly grow into gigantic whop- pers, more and more char- acters get helplessly tangled in the series of ludicrously improbable events. The story is structured like a house of cards. as it builds up with one frantic situation after another, hut ultimately, it's the audience that collapses - with " ARTS FOCUS laughter. As in all successful farms. the production hinges on split-second timing, impec- cable comic delivery. and rhythmic pacing and direc- tor Marcia Kash has it in spades. The production is packed with so many laughs. there is little lime to catch your breath. Moreover. Kash has brought out the best from each of her six brilliant per- formers, as they all add comic sparks to this fun- filled gem. The production is anchored by two extremely talented veteran actors. Robin Ward plays the lead role of Bernard lawrence with iust the right mix of arrogance and authority. humbling and fumbling. The World Goes 'Round features 30 routines from a dozen of their beloved Broadway musicals and movies, including Cabaret, Chicago. Funny lady, Mrba, Kiss Of The Spider Woman and NewYork. New York. David Rogers, who has thrilled Drayton audiences in Give My Regards To Broadway and countless other productions, makes a confident, self-assured direct- iag debut, "He keeps the production moving at a lightning pace. and captures the spectrum of human emotion with relative ease. Shé also does a lovely, wistful rendition of My Colouring Book. and shows comedic chaps on Class. an entertaining duet with Rebecca llofr. __ Puff. a longtime Drayton audience favourite, exudes charisma and stage presence as she stings your heart with the dark. haunting lyrics of Coloured Lights. only to swing to the opposite side of the pen- dulum later on as she obviously enjoys camping it up inThe Grass Is Always Greener. Stephen Patterson, who last appeared as Joseph in Drayton Entertainment's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, shows terrific range in tender, bittersweet ballads like The Happy Time, We Can Make It. and the show-stopping Kiss (“The Spider Woman. Marianne McCord, fresh from a season with the Stratford Festival and the u.s, tour of Chicago, including Las Vegas and Broadway. captivates the audience with her sassy renditions of Arthur in the Afternoon and All That Ian. Shawn Wright, who supplies plenty of humour with his hilarious takes on Sara Ito and Mn Cello- phane. rounds out the stellar cast, _ The lighting design by Simon [Jay encompasses many moods, from humour to drama to romance. The appropriate costume design by Lindsay Walker adds further appeal to this winning production. The simple set design byVaughn Davis, consisting of a staircase of piano keys leading up to the heavens, is quite fitting as the production is certain 'to make your spirit to soar.
