The winner can also go on to the world champiâ€" onship in the Carolinas later this year. That‘s why Carl Zender decided to bring a branch of the worldâ€"famous tourna:â€" ment to Kitchenerâ€"Waterioo July 16â€"17 with the hopes of giving locals a look at what street ball is all about. He got a taste of it himself last year when he and his son, Dustin, found themselves in London during the annual tournament. Zender, a transplanted American who helps coach his son‘s high school basketâ€" ball team, came away impressed by the level of organization and by the quality of play. He thought the local hotbed of basketâ€" ball that the Waterloo region has become would be quick to adopt the concept. And it would also give something back to the local game, with some of the ptoâ€" ceeds going to support the «a 6 ||°| MmMAINTENAMLE || ANT EANAUV 17 PACKAGE _ ! _ SERVICE | |!! "All of the peoâ€" ple would start flowing to watch the championship courts." Zender‘s expectations are a little more modest far the inaugural tournament in Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo, but Bingemans will be the site this year and should be able to accommodate all of the local interest. Registration for the local tournament is until June 27, and Zender said he‘s surâ€" prised to find a lot of the early entries have been from outside of Waterloaa Region than within its conâ€" fines. He expects that to change as the word gets out there, and the buzz starts to build among local roundâ€" ballers. To register onâ€"line, visit www.macker.com, or call the Macker hotline at 1â€"800â€" 876â€"HOOP. "That‘s necessary so we can seed everybody." said Zender. "Semiâ€"pro teams will play against other semiâ€" pro teams, while college will play college and high school with high school. "It goes all the way down to fiveâ€"yearâ€"olds.
