Backpacking brothers take But for brothers Kevin and Eric Martin, it‘s also their last chance to bond before they have to finally take a further step into adulthood â€" and a good excuse to help raise money for a good cause. Kevin, 19, and older brother Eric, 22, of Waterioo, started their 850â€"km last Saturday, traveling the entire Bruce Trail, from the Niagara escarpment down to Hamilton, through Southwestern Ontario, up to Owen Sound and finally stopping in Tobermory. They plan to finish come midâ€"June. "It‘s kind of been a dream of ours for awhile to do this and this year works in parâ€" ticular for us because after this summer we‘ll both be so busy. It‘s the last free summer we‘ll have so we want to make it worthâ€" while," Kevin said. When the brothers decided they finally wanted to embark on the hike, they decided to do it for more than just personal satisfacâ€" tion. They spoke to the House of â€" Friendship _ about fundraising for its summer camp sponsorship program, which sends about 100 chilâ€" dren from lowâ€"income famâ€" ilies to camp each summer. "If we‘re doing the hike, we may as well do it for a good reason to make the most out of it," Kevin said. House of Friendship‘s development director Brian Hunsberger said the brothâ€" ers‘ assistance to raise money for the sponsorship program _ was â€" warmly received. "Anything that helps to raise the profile of the proâ€" gram is very helpful," Hunsâ€" berger said. "So the fact that they‘re doing this is very much appreciated." Kevin has spent 14 years at a summer camp, where he has been a camp counâ€" sellor for the past three years.
