Poster Boy climbs into campaign for cancer centre And, as in past years, he‘s looking forâ€" ward to watching the path this touching tale will take from now until the end of the fundraising drive at noon next Tuesâ€" day. "It‘s a brand new story every year," said Bourke of the annual event in support of the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre. "And it‘s a story I love to help tell... the story of what people are doing for this community." Bourke‘s been 105.3 KOOL FM‘s Poster Boy for the past eight years. _ _ â€" Every April. he climbs up a billboard in front of the hospital and stays there day and night â€" excluding trips to the washâ€" room â€" for exactly one week, raising funds for the cancer centre. "That‘s the question people ask me most often â€" where do you go to the washroom," Bourke said. "I share a bathroom with hundreds of people in the hospital, which is actually a treat. I live in a house with all women, so at least I can actually get into this bathâ€" room." That‘s not to say he doesn‘t miss his family during his week away, or more of life‘s simple pleasures many people take for granted until they‘re gone. The days at his post can be long, cold and strenuous. but the result is always worth the small struggles along the way. Bourke said. & "I‘m 46 vears old now," Bourke said. "When I was 38, it wasn‘t so bad; but at this age, I find my back gets more sore because I‘m hunched over a lot of the time and I‘m sitting quite low at time, which isn‘t good for anyone.
