Focus for Ethnic Women holds dinner Focus for Ethnic Women, a local nonâ€"profit organiâ€" zation serving immigrant and refugee women, is hostâ€" ing its fourth annual fundraising dinner at Golf‘s Steak House, March 10 durâ€" ing International Women‘s Week. Focus for Ethnic Women, founded in 1987 by a handâ€" ful of local immigrant women, operates with the physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual needs of new Canadian women at its core. Focus for Ethnic Women offers a variety of programs French fun sugmiTTED emoros and resources to meet these needs, including training in locating suitable employâ€" ment and developing the skills required to successfulâ€" ly attain employment goals. Through participation in these programs, immigrant women experience increased selfâ€"esteem, sense of community, and personal empowerment. Every year the Focus on Friends fundraising dinner centres on an award cereâ€" mony recognizing local immigrant women from various fields of expertise who have also contributed LIFESTYLE to the community through volunteerism. This year, two local immigrant women artists will be recognized for their accomplishments in the arts: Sylvia Perija, a musiâ€" cian and past Focus particiâ€" pant, and Indu Singh, a sucâ€" cessful potter. There will be a silent aucâ€" tion of beautiful saris, and numerous door prizes that have been generously donated by local businesses will be awarded. The dinner, prepared and served by the friendly staff at Golf‘s Steak House, is always delicious, and a lively performance from the Acholi Cultural Dance Group â€" a local Sudanese dance group â€" will compleâ€" ment the evening. The YWCA Lincoln Road Apartments will hold their annual spring craft and gift sale this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale is a fundraiser for Operation Christmas Child.
