t was back to school for I’lom O‘Brien and his St David Celtics junior girls basketball team as they took on the St. Benedict Saints last week. And he used all the expeâ€" rience and guile accumulatâ€" ed after 20 years of coaching at the university level, including the last eight years as the head coach of the University of Waterloo Warriors women‘s team. to help his present team beat the preseason favourites 44â€" 43. "I‘m still really unhappy about what happened at Waterloo, and how it hapâ€" pened, but I‘m beyond that now," said O‘Brien. "I‘ve got a really nice group of kids. and I‘m enjoying being around the school more." O‘Brien admits he‘s still a little bit upset at being unceremoniously dumped from the Warriors last year. But rather than sitting out the year out on the sideâ€" lines, he decided to get right back into the game. And while some might consider it a step back to coach at the junior level at high school, it‘s where O‘Brien got his start and he‘s happy to be back. And he‘d love to build the program back up and put another _ championship team up on the banner hanging on the wall of the Celtics‘ gym. He‘s got a lot of work to do too. with the Celtics only fielding a junior girls basketball team this year.
